The Talking Turtles
People often ask how we come up with our designs. The explanation might surprise you. We employ a team of talking turtles who are great at coming up with fun product names, like "Wings of Wonder" and "Spinderella." Then we simply create a garment that's as imaginative as the name! True, the talking turtles were shy at first. But now that they've come out of their shell, you can't get them to be quiet.
One day, the talking turtles issued me a challenge: They bet that I couldn't design a fantastic piece of clothing for a product name that was really boring. The winner would get a lifetime supply of heads of lettuce.
"Okay, talking turtles," I said. "You're on!"
"Not so fast," said the talking turtles. "There's one condition." (By the way, turtles say "Not so fast" to just about everything.)
"The name of the product has to use the letters 'L' and 'G' four times each."
"Uh-oh," I thought. "Maybe I shouldn't have stuck my neck out for this. That's a bad habit I've picked up from the turtles!"
Nevertheless, I wasn't about to back down, so I accepted the challenge. First, I had to come up with a boring name that had 4 L's and 4 G's. I pondered and ruminated for days on end. (Although I did take several breaks to contemplate and cogitate.) Finally it hit me.
"Full Length Leggings!"
Nice! I patted myself on the back for the one. Although I have to admit, I only did that to rub it in, since turtles can't pat their backs.
Now for the hard part: to create a design that would more than compensate for its boring name. The fabric would have to be amazingly soft, and the prints incredibly lively. I searched the fabric vendors high and low. I traveled to Venice, and Shanghai, and Montenegro. But wouldn't you believe it, the perfect fabric was right here in Los Angeles.
And that's how the Full Length Leggings became an instant best-seller. And that's also why I eat heads of lettuce every day for lunch.
